Listened to Background Briefing on the ABC’s Radio National last night. It seems Dubya and John Ashcroft are not interested in providing much publicity about the home-grown nutters, white supremacist, paranoid militia types of the more loony fundamentalist evangelical Christian types. They and the subservient commercial media obviously prefer to maintain the impression that all terrorists are foreigners and in the case of Dubya probably some of them are a part of his voter support base.

Followed up to my documentary watching to listening to Late Night Live on ABC radio. The major issue that the speakers were talking about tonight was The Rise of the Independent Media in response to the disenchantment of people with Corporate Media.

Have been documentary watching this evening. Saw on the ABC’s Foreign Correspondent report a report from the BBC’s Panorama program which was a follow up to the Catholic Church’s strange view that condoms cause the spread of AIDs and how thwy preach this message for all its worth in Brazil and Africa. Based it seems on a rather dubious and highly selective reading of some scientific papers relating to research on the the use of condoms in the prevention of the spread of AIDs.

The Roman Catholic Church’s research sounds as dubious and as far from reality as that of Dubya’s cronies in the other documentary or half of the documentary I’ve seen so far. It is a French documentary, World According to Bush first shown in France in June and shown on SBS this evening. I gather it was going to be shown in Cannes if Michael Moore’s film had been stopped in its tracks. I think I’ve seen most of the individuals before and their stories about the behaviour of the Bush coterie and his strong links with the Far Right sections of the Conservative Christian movement in the US and the belief system (as crazy as some of it sounds) that fuels Bush, if he is being sincere about his beliefs or not manufacturing them for political purposes. It makes me shudder to think that the most powerful government in the world is supposed to be inspired by some of the more loony belief systems of the Moral Majority.
