Crocs new hazard for north Qld golfers
There is a new hazard for golfers in Townsville, in north Queensland, with crocodiles taking up residence at a local course.
Some of the reptiles are up to two-metres long.
The president of the Townsville Golf Club, Terry Walsh, says two players were teased when they first reported seeing the crocodiles two years ago.
“For the last two years I’ve said ‘nah, got to be on the hooch the night before’,” he said.
However Mr Walsh stumbled upon the stray reptiles a month ago and since then members have been competing to get photographs.
“It’s getting colder and now they’re coming out more often, people have been saying ‘I saw the croc, I saw the croc’.”
Mr Walsh says the photos will be sent to the Department of Primary Industries to determine if they are freshwater or the more dangerous saltwater variety.
Mr Walsh says there are no safety concerns at this stage.
