The dark clouds are gathering, it looks like we are going to get the same sort of thunderstorms we had yesterday afternoon. We began the summer with monster storms and we end with storms. Some places yesterday got a month’s worth of rain in just half an hour and thunder and lightning was crashing around off and on throughout last night.

Here are some pics of the storm –

This cartoon shows all too clearly the desperate straits for the Federal Opposition –

The AWAs certainly deserved to be sacrificed, if not to save the Opposition but to save the rest of us from greedy employers. No sympathy whatsoever for the idiots who introduced them  and were still trying to preserve them only a week ago.

This story gave me the creeps –

Police investigate ‘Butcher of Bega’

That he continued to practice after he was struck off is as shocking as his abuse of his female patients.

Strange Stuff

I’m going back to work tomorrow. Most of this morning was spent waiting around at the pathologists for them to take samples of my blood on the hour for a glucose tolerance test. After stuffing myself with carbohydrates for the last three days (as requested by them), I then had to fast for at least 12 hours, then donate blood and other body fluids and then drink a very sweet fizzy drink and then have more blood taken over two hours. I’m hoping this test will prove negative. I don’t want the trifecta of cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes, the quinella of the first two is bad enough. Went for a very late breakfast and did some catch up grocery shopping.

I have also discovered I will have to give up licorice. I was checking all the vitamin and supplements I’ve been taking this last year or so, on the internet to make sure they weren’t contraindicated for the medication I’m on and they weren’t but as I was nibbling on a piece of dark chocolate coated licorice, it occurred to me licorice was often used in medicines so checked licorice and there it was in big letters, do not take if you are being treated for hypertension. I love licorice but obviously it has to go.

Went to see the genetic counsellor this afternoon and she told me that I don’t have a BRCA1 or BRCA2 genetic defect. Doesn’t mean I haven’t got other genetic defects but I can stop worrying about possibly getting ovarian cancer on top of the current lot I’ve got. I’ll ring my sister to tell her she can stop worrying on that front. As the counsellor said other than a currently unknown genetic defect, my mother’s family have just been extraordinarily unlucky on this front.

I went to the oncologist today for the last time. I’m swapping oncologists. She said the cancer is stable, not cured and I sort of got the impression that might be the best I can expect. She told me there was no reason to see the new oncologist straight away and to make an appointment within the next three months with her unless I noted any sudden increase in redness and size of the existing breast tumour. I decided to make an appointment straight away and the earliest appointment I can get is the 1 May anyway.

I’ll find out the results of my genetic screening tests next Monday afternoon too.

I’m leaving for Newcastle now and will probably be back on Thursday. I’ve decided to spend a little extra time with Dad after the funeral.
