Drat and blast! Because I held off a little to confirm the cruise I originally nominated until I could get the loan approved, I missed the last spot on the ship I wanted for the dates I want. They’ve offered another cruise but it doesn’t go to Isabela and Fernandina Islands so I’ve asked them to look for Sunday-Sunday sailings as well inclusive of these two islands. Mutter, mutter. Gives hateful look to the credit union. I rang Samantha and she said that they will contact me this afternoon or tomorrow morning about the loan.

I had the day off today and in my ongoing attempts to hurdle the paperwork barrier that the credit union has imposed before I can get my personal loan approved, went into town though it was miserable and grey and pouring with rain. I brought every possible bit of paperwork related to my credit card accounts (even though I owe absolutely zilch to any of them at the moment) and expected to be able to see the person who was dealing with my loan request and get her to give me an answer, expecting her to be located there. But no when I go to the counter I’m told she works in Parramatta and as I had no intention of going out there all I could do is get the girl at the counter to photocopy all the stuff and fax it to Samantha at Parramatta. Still no phone call from the Credit Union this afternoon. I lodged the application via the internet, believing their promises that it would be so much simpler and easier and quicker. But nooo … I’ve had to submit more paperwork than I’ve ever remembered and do more ringing and running around to satisfy their demands for more information than I’ve ever done before. The last time I applied for a loan with them, I went into the office with some pay slips and my most recent rent receipts and little else and they approved the loan within a few hours. This has taken at least five days so far. I would rather hold off making any bookings for my holiday until I get the loan approved and I was hoping that would be fairly speedy. I wanted to get all the arrangements settled before Christmas as I know I will have tons of work in the first few months of the year and won’t have the time to spare and wanted to do as much as possible at the slowest (work-wise) time of the year for me.

On a more positive note, I’ve completed my Christmas card list and posted them off this morning. That is about the limit of my productivity this weekend. I went to a not so good day at the Centre for Continuing Education at Sydney Uni on the Beginning and the End of the Universe. I rather wished I’d saved my money. The speakers were not so great and wasted a lot of time trying to wrestle with the technology to put up their power point presentations and then rushed through their talks. What is it today that no one can prepare an interesting and informative lecture/talk without powerpoint or images to flash up on a screen. They must think their audience are so image dependent these days that they won’t be able to follow what they’re saying without a pretty picture to show them. Rather insulting to their audience. I’m hoping the next one I’m going to in a few weeks will be better. It is on the music of the Baroque period.

Back to work tomorrow ….urghh!

Pubs rule in Oz

It says something about our transplanted culture in Oz that one of the earliest relics they can find is of a pub. See the article from the local tabloid about the latest discovery at Parramatta –

The Oz equivalent of the pyramids

You’re To Kill a Mockingbird!
by Harper Lee
Perceived as a revolutionary and groundbreaking person, you have
changed the minds of many people. While questioning the authority around you, you’ve
also taken a significant amount of flack. But you’ve had the admirable guts to
persevere. There’s a weird guy in the neighborhood using dubious means to protect you,
but you’re pretty sure it’s worth it in the end. In the end, it remains unclear to you
whether finches and mockingbirds get along in real life.

Take the Book Quiz
at the Blue Pyramid.

*g* Not really.
